The Centro de Teoría Política, CTP, (Centre for Political Theory), was founded by a group of professors coming from different specializations and academic positions, either from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), or from other institutions, and conceived as a centre of higher research in the field of political theory. We share a broad conception of political theory, that is not confined to the study of the classics, but as a theoretical reflection and a normative analysis about concrete political processes. Our aim is twofold: on the one hand, to encourage and develop interdisciplinary research tracks in political theory and, on the other, to establish links with akin groups and institutions either in Spain or abroad.

In order to accomplish these objectives, this institution strives to channel efforts for the integration of various similar fields of knowledge (sociology, social anthropology, economic theory, history, philosophy, etc.) and of other centre of research based in UAM or other universities. In particular, we can mention our special links with the following institutions: University of Keele (UK), Georgetown University (USA), New School for Social Research (USA), Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (Germany), Instituut vor Publiek en Politiek (Netherlands), etc.

The CTP sustains and even facilitates petitions to raise funding to open new research projects. Among the activities promoted by the CTP there are the invitation of Spanish and foreign professors, the search for funding, the enrolment of PhD candidates interested in political theory, and, of course, the development of our own specific areas of research. In this manner, the CTP aspires to be a place of encounter for researchers currently working in isolation.
